APFA Condemns Manhandling of Asma Jahangir’s Associates for Pursuing Ayesha’s Disappearance Case

Lahore: On Tuesday, June 20, 2017 during the second hearing of Ayesha’s disappearance case at Lahore High Court, a group of lawyers from the side of the accused, manhandled lawyer Usama Malik and hurled abuses at lawyer Noor Ejaz inside the premises of court in presence of the judge.

Noor Ejaz, who is also an associate of Asma Jahangir, was attending Ayesha’s case fixed in the Court when she was hurled abuses at by one of the many lawyers that accompanied the counsel of the accused. When her colleague Usama Malik tried to stop the culprit he was manhandled by a group of lawyers and his clothes were torn. They then chanted slogans against Asma Jahangir in an attempt to malign her character. Taking into account the current charged atmosphere of the country slogans like “Asma Qadiyani” were a deliberate attempt to incite mob violence against Asma Jahangir’s associates.

Lawyers are the upholders of law but it seems like a section of legal fraternity is trying to pressurize the Court through harassment and violence with an intention to obstruct justice and fair trial. All Pakistan Feminists’ Association condemns the use of violence against Ayesha’s counsel and demands concerned authorities to take immediate action against those involved in hooliganism and charge them under contempt and incitement.
